Former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has said his long-awaited fight with fellow Briton Anthony Joshua “looks like it will not happen,” accusing his opponent and promoter Eddie Hearn of being “too greedy” for money.
The Joshua vs. Fury bout — one of the biggest events in British boxing history — was slated for November after both parties signed contracts with Turki Alalshikh, chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority. However, no concrete date or venue has been confirmed so far.
Speaking on Instagram Stories on Friday, Fury said: “It looks like they won’t sign the fight contract, and the fight looks like it won’t happen, all because Eddie Hearn and those people want more money.”
According to multiple media reports, Joshua and promoter Hearn have signed to have the fight in the UK, while the Saudi side is pushing to move it to the United States, with New York’s Madison Square Garden seen as the leading candidate.
Fury, a two-time world champion, claimed Joshua is demanding a higher purse. He added: “They’ve received a lot of money from Turki over the past few years — Eddie and AJ — they’ve had boxing deals, billiards deals, snooker deals, everything. Yet they still dare to ask for more money from Mr. Turki, whom they’ve drained dry over the whole time.”
Calling Joshua and Hearn “disgusting,” Fury declared he would move on and seek another opponent. “But know this: you’ve never had the courage to fight Tyson Fury, you cowards,” he said.
Fury, who turns 38 in August, has won 36 professional fights and lost only twice, both against Ukraine’s Oleksandr Usyk in 2024. He announced his return in January this year, after retiring in December 2024. Joshua and Fury previously failed to reach a deal in 2021 when their planned clash collapsed after a U.S. judge ruled Fury must face Deontay Wilder in a trilogy fight.
