Jordan's football federation president, Prince Ali bin Hussein, has confirmed that national team players and staff have received the remaining bonus payments for the 2025 Arab Cup. The statement came two days after he publicly criticized FIFA President Gianni Infantino, accusing the organization of applying pressure.
According to Prince Ali, FIFA offered to help resolve Jordan's issues in exchange for his support for Infantino's re-election. One of the issues he raised was that the Jordan Football Association had been waiting since December last year for bonus money tied to reaching the Arab Cup final in Qatar.
On social media platform X on Thursday, Prince Ali wrote: "Thank you to FIFA's leadership for suddenly transferring this morning the money owed to the players and coaching staff of Jordan's national team for reaching the final of the FIFA Arab Cup in Qatar in December. This is funding that should have been received eight months ago."
Earlier, Prince Ali had alleged that FIFA delivered a verbal message during the World Cup that supporting President Infantino "would greatly help our football federation." FIFA has not issued an official response to these allegations.
Prince Ali stressed that receiving the bonuses was a positive development but added it would not change the Jordan Football Association's stance on FIFA's leadership. "This reflects the difficulties we face, often linked to FIFA presidential elections. It also does not alter my clear position: the Jordan Football Association will not support President Infantino and will not vote for him," he said.
FIFA has apologized to members for errors in a proposal to sell part of the World Cup commercial rights, which was later withdrawn. However, FIFA's leadership reiterated its support for President Infantino after an emergency meeting in Morocco on Wednesday.
Infantino is seeking to extend his decade-long presidency into a fourth and final term in elections scheduled for next March.
