Manchester United captain and midfielder Bruno Fernandes has been voted the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) Player of the Year, while Manchester City striker Khadija Shaw has claimed the equivalent women's award for the second time in her career.
The results, announced on Tuesday, reflect the standout individual form of both players, despite contrasting team fortunes over the past season.
The Portuguese midfielder broke the Premier League assist record in a remarkable 2025-26 campaign, providing 21 assists to surpass the previous milestones set by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.
The 31-year-old also scored nine goals, helping United recover from a poor start to finish third under Michael Carrick and secure a return to the Champions League. Fernandes had already been named Player of the Year by the Football Writers' Association (FWA) in May.
“This is clearly a very proud moment. They are the ones I face on the pitch, and perhaps it is not easy to vote for someone you play against, so this is a great moment,” Fernandes said.
Shaw, meanwhile, was recognized after scoring 21 goals to claim a third consecutive Golden Boot and helping Manchester City win the Women's Super League for the first time in a decade.
City also had further cause for celebration as Nico O'Reilly was named the men's Young Player of the Year. The 21-year-old scored twice in the League Cup final as City beat Arsenal, and was also part of the squad that won the FA Cup last season.
“I'm very proud of the season I had,” said the England international. “I won two trophies with the club and had the chance to play at the World Cup with the national team. I'm extremely happy with how it went.”
O'Reilly was included in the Team of the Year alongside City teammates Erling Haaland, Rayan Cherki, and Antoine Semenyo. Champions Arsenal had five representatives—David Raya, Gabriel, William Saliba, Jurrien Timber, and Declan Rice—while Fernandes and Brentford striker Igor Thiago completed the lineup.
