Everton said on Friday that its owner, The Friedkin Group (TFG), is willing to sell a controlling stake in the club as part of an effort to attract new investment.
The announcement comes less than two years after the US-based group bought Everton from former owner Farhad Moshiri in December 2024, taking over a club struggling with financial difficulties and a prolonged period of instability.
Since then, TFG has overseen Everton's move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium and efforts to improve the club's finances.
"When TFG became the custodian of Everton, the club faced significant financial uncertainty and challenges both on and off the pitch," the ownership said in a statement.
It said its immediate priority was to bring the stability, investment and support needed to secure the club's future, including completing the stadium.
"With that foundation now securely in place, the time is right to consider the next chapter for Everton."
TFG said it would only consider proposals from parties it believes can build on the progress made since the takeover, adding that it will continue to support the club on and off the pitch throughout the process.
The TFG decision follows a summer transfer window that, according to British media reports, drew criticism from fans. Everton generated significant income from player sales but made only limited additions to the squad before the deadline.
TFG, which also owns Italy's AS Roma and France's AS Cannes, said it has hired investment bank Moelis & Company to advise on the process.
The group and Everton said they would not comment further while the process is under way.
