The Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until Iran's rights are respected.

The announcement comes as regional tensions show no sign of easing. The statement did not specify a timeline or the specific conditions under which the strait would be reopened.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most strategically important shipping lanes, carrying a large volume of oil and gas every day. A closure of the strait could severely disrupt global energy supplies.
