According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, a powerful earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.3 struck northeastern Japan on Friday (February 7). Despite causing significant shaking, the agency said no tsunami warning was issued.
The earthquake occurred at a depth of about 40 kilometers, with its epicenter off the coast of Fukushima Prefecture, an area frequently subject to seismic activity. Local authorities are currently assessing potential damage and urging residents to remain calm and follow official information.
Although no tsunami was generated, residents in coastal areas were advised to be cautious of aftershocks. Experts emphasize that Japan lies on the Pacific Ring of Fire, which experiences about 20% of the world's strongest earthquakes each year.
