Qatar’s UN envoy Alya Ahmed Saif al-Thani has backed a draft Security Council resolution to protect shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. She warned that the current situation threatens global economic stability, energy security, and regional peace.
Qatar’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Alya Ahmed Saif al-Thani, has voiced support for a draft Security Council resolution aimed at protecting maritime navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
Speaking at UN headquarters, al-Thani stressed that the proposal is of “great importance” to both the region and the world.
She warned that the current situation “not only endangers global economic stability and energy security, but also exacerbates humanitarian crises and undermines regional stability.”
According to the ambassador, keeping the strait open is a requirement under international conventions and a shared responsibility of the global community.
Qatar is committed to continuing consultations with member states to build support for this measure.
“Qatar looks forward to continuing its active engagement with member states to ensure support for this timely security resolution,” al-Thani affirmed.
