Bahrain's UN envoy Jamal Alrowaiei has backed a draft Security Council resolution to secure shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, demanding Iran halt attacks on commercial vessels. The resolution, co-sponsored by the US and Gulf states, addresses mine-laying and illegal fees, emphasizing freedom of navigation under international law.
Bahrain's Ambassador to the United Nations, Jamal Alrowaiei, expressed support for a draft Security Council resolution intended to ensure the safety of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Speaking at UN headquarters, Alrowaiei said the draft, co-sponsored by the United States and Gulf states, seeks to strengthen maritime security along this strategic waterway.
According to Alrowaiei, the draft resolution demands that Iran immediately cease all attacks and threats against merchant and commercial vessels. The text also addresses issues such as mine-laying and illegal toll collection in the strait. He stressed, “Allowing such actions to become normalized is unacceptable.”
The Bahraini envoy noted that recent developments underscore the need for coordinated international action to keep the strait open. “The draft resolution is guided by a clear principle: freedom of navigation in accordance with international law,” he affirmed.
