Iranian Ambassador to Iraq Mohammad Kazem Al-e Sadegh met with Patriarch Louis Raphaël I Sako, the newly appointed head of the Chaldean Catholic Church in Baghdad. The meeting took place shortly after the patriarch’s installation, succeeding his predecessor after many years of service.
During the meeting, Ambassador Al-e Sadegh conveyed congratulations from the Iranian government and people to the new patriarch, emphasizing Tehran’s support for his role in protecting religious values and promoting peace and unity among religious communities in Iraq. He affirmed that Iran consistently values and supports different ethnic and religious groups in Iraq, including the Christian community.
In response, Patriarch Louis Raphaël I Sako thanked Iran for its attention and expressed a desire to continue fostering interfaith dialogue and cooperation among religious communities in the region. He also stressed the importance of maintaining the presence and role of Christians in Iraq as the country recovers from years of conflict.
The Chaldean Catholic Church is one of the largest Eastern Catholic churches in Iraq, with a long history and a significant role in the spiritual life of the Christian community in the Middle East.
