Hiroshi Okuda, former chairman of the Japan Business Federation (Keidanren), has died at the age of 93, according to a source familiar with the matter said on Monday.
Okuda was one of the most powerful figures in Japanese business, having served as chairman of Keidanren, the country's largest business lobby, in the early 2000s.
Previously, he was president of Toyota Motor Corporation, one of the world's leading automakers, and played a significant role in promoting Japan's international economic cooperation.
Details of the funeral and memorial services have not been immediately announced. Okuda's family is expected to hold a private funeral in the coming days.
