Cristiano Ronaldo, the athlete with the largest following on social media, and longtime partner Georgina Rodriguez officially married on Tuesday at the Cascais resort in Portugal, according to an announcement from the footballer's representatives.
The wedding came after days of intense speculation in the Portuguese media about the venue and timing. The couple had been in a relationship for a decade before tying the knot.
Ronaldo, 41, posted on Instagram a photo of the couple's hands with wedding rings, captioned "C [heart] G".
The couple's five children attended the "private and intimate" ceremony, according to information from Brunswick Group, the player's public relations firm, as shared with AFP.
The ceremony took place exactly one year after Rodriguez, 32, a content creator, announced their engagement on Instagram.
Ronaldo, who played for Portugal at this summer's World Cup and was eliminated in the round of 16, currently plays for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia. He has won the Ballon d'Or five times during spells with Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus.
Rodriguez gained wider fame through the Netflix series I am Georgina, which chronicles their family life amid football, fashion, and travel.
Portuguese media had previously speculated the wedding might take place in Sintra, on the outskirts of Lisbon, or in Funchal on the Atlantic island of Madeira, Ronaldo's birthplace. Over the weekend, hundreds gathered at the cathedral in Funchal hoping to catch a glimpse of the couple.
The cathedral had earlier told AFP that no wedding was scheduled there for Ronaldo, but hosting such an event would be "an honor."
Ultimately, the couple chose Cascais, an upscale seaside resort about 30 kilometers west of Lisbon, where they own a villa.
They met in 2016 when Rodriguez worked at a Gucci store in Madrid. She described it as "love at first sight." In a 2025 interview with Vogue Arabia, she said she immediately felt "a peace and an inexplicable energy" with Ronaldo, "as if we had known each other for a long time."
The couple has a combined following of more than 750 million on social media platforms, making them one of the most famous couples in the world, far beyond football. They also hold a portfolio of fashion brands and a hotel chain.
