Princess Kako on Sunday called for greater awareness of hearing loss at a national welfare conference held in Kyoto, expressing her hope for a society in which everyone can communicate with confidence.
Speaking at the event, Princess Kako stressed the importance of building an environment in which people with hearing impairments can take full part in community life. She said she hopes society will increasingly understand and share the difficulties that people with hearing loss face in everyday communication.
The national welfare conference is an annual forum that brings together organizations and individuals working in the field of social welfare, providing a space to exchange experience and promote initiatives supporting people with disabilities. The participation of a member of Japan's Imperial Family in the event helps raise public awareness of welfare issues.
