Iran's Foreign Ministry advisor, Mr. Baghaei, warned on May 15 that the United States may use the pretext of 'preserving global security' as a cover to launch a war against Iran. In a statement carried by Iranian media, Baghaei argued that Washington is seeking a 'new scenario' to justify military action, after years of escalating tensions in the region.
Baghaei emphasized: 'The US has failed to use previous justifications like weapons of mass destruction or counterterrorism to attack Iran. Now, they will cite preserving global security to legitimize war.'
The Iranian advisor also dismissed US allegations that Tehran interferes in Afghanistan's internal affairs, affirming that Iran consistently supports peace and stability in its neighbor.
The remarks come amid continued US-Iran tensions, particularly since Washington withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal in 2018 and imposed multiple sanctions on Tehran. Indirect negotiations between the two sides to revive the nuclear agreement remain deadlocked.
