A US policy analyst has asserted that President Donald Trump must abandon the demand for Iran to completely halt its uranium enrichment activities if he hopes to move toward a viable new nuclear agreement.
According to the expert, Washington's continued insistence that Iran cease all uranium enrichment is unrealistic and will hinder the negotiating process. Iran has repeatedly stated that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes and that it has the right to enrich uranium under the terms of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
The analyst stressed that a successful deal would require concessions from both sides. Instead of demanding a complete enrichment halt, the US should focus on rigorous monitoring and inspection measures to ensure that Iran's nuclear program is not diverted toward military objectives.
The assessment comes amid difficult negotiations over Iran's nuclear program, marked by deep disagreements between Washington and Tehran.
