Pakistan’s Speaker of Parliament, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, and Chief of Army Staff, General Asim Munir, arrived in Tehran, Iran, today as part of an official visit. The two leaders held talks with Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and senior Iranian military officials.
The meetings took place amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, particularly following recent clashes in the Gaza Strip and the situation in Yemen. According to an official statement, both sides focused on boosting economic, energy, and counter-terrorism security cooperation.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian also met separately with the Pakistani delegation, confirming that the two countries agreed to strengthen coordination within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the United Nations. “Iran and Pakistan share historical ties and common strategic interests. We are determined to expand cooperation across all sectors,” Ghalibaf said at a press conference.
The visit comes just days after Iran and Saudi Arabia normalized relations under Chinese mediation. Analysts view Pakistan’s move as an effort to reinforce its mediating role and safeguard security interests amid the region’s complex developments.
