Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf arrived in Iraq's capital, Baghdad, on Sunday, beginning a multi-day official visit to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
According to the Iranian parliament's press office, the visit comes as both nations seek to expand collaboration across various sectors, particularly in economy, trade, and security. Ghalibaf is expected to hold talks with senior Iraqi officials, including the speaker of Iraq's parliament and other government representatives.
The visit follows Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani's trip to Iran in April, during which the two sides signed several key agreements on energy, transportation, and trade cooperation. Analysts view Ghalibaf's current visit as a further step in consolidating stable neighborly relations between Tehran and Baghdad.
Iran and Iraq share a complex historical relationship, but in recent years they have deepened cooperation in areas ranging from energy exchanges to security coordination, particularly amid regional volatility.
