Europe maintains record LNG imports in April
TASS
Europe maintained record LNG imports in April, with flows of 12.61 billion cubic meters, down slightly from March but still at historic highs. Over the first four months, LNG injections exceeded 50.8 billion cubic meters, up 9% year-on-year, as countries filled storage for winter.
Moscow, May 2. Data from Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) shows that in April, Europe maintained LNG imports at last year's record levels as countries accelerated fuel injections into storage for winter.
According to TASS calculations, by end-April, LNG volumes from European terminals feeding into the EU gas transmission system reached 12.61 billion cubic meters, down 7% from March and 0.1% less than April 2025.
However, over the first four months of the year (January–April), total LNG pumped from terminals into Europe's gas grid held at a record of more than 50.8 billion cubic meters, up 9% from the same period in 2025.
The European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas (ENTSOG) on April 28 published data showing LNG supply accounted for 36.2% of Europe's total gas during January–April. Second was gas from the North Sea, predominantly from Norway, at 28.3%. Withdrawals from underground storage ranked third at 21.3%, and North African supply came fourth at 7.2%.
Notably, gas from the East (including Russian and Ukrainian gas, as well as volumes European companies withdrew from storage in Ukraine) accounted for only 4.6%, lower than the other sources. Supply from Azerbaijan reached 2.5%.
