Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen collapsed on the pitch during a friendly match against Ukraine on the evening of June 6. According to a statement from the Danish Football Union, the player remained conscious and in stable health condition.
"Christian Eriksen is awake and in good condition under the circumstances," the Danish Football Union wrote on its X account (formerly Twitter) shortly after the incident. The friendly match was immediately canceled.
This is not the first time Eriksen has suffered a medical incident on the field. In 2021, during a Euro group stage match, the midfielder collapsed and required CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) to survive. He subsequently received an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) device to support his heart.
Neither Denmark nor Ukraine qualified for the World Cup this year.
