Toronto police confirmed that an officer was shot before 6 a.m. Thursday (10 a.m. GMT) while executing a search warrant in the city's northwest area. The victim was rushed to hospital.
The Globe and Mail, citing an anonymous source, reported that the search was part of a national security investigation into the March 10 shooting at the U.S. consulate in downtown Toronto.
Previously, Toronto police stated that two men fired multiple shots at the U.S. diplomatic building before dawn. The incident caused no injuries but U.S. Ambassador to Canada Pete Hoekstra called it "very concerning."
Canadian federal police said the investigation into the consulate attack would determine whether it is considered "terrorism."
No further details are available about the condition of the injured officer.
