Japanese police searched a facility belonging to the Tobu Railway group on Sunday over suspected negligent manslaughter, following an accident that left 4 workers dead when an express train struck them north of Tokyo.
The incident occurred on August 20, 2026, when an express train collided with a group of workers on the tracks. All 4 victims died at the scene.
Investigators are focusing on the company's labor safety procedures and compliance with protective measures during construction, to determine whether negligence in organization or supervision led to the tragedy.
A police spokesperson said the search was conducted on Sunday, gathering documents and evidence related to operational procedures, maintenance schedules, and the firm's safety records before the incident.
Tobu Railway has not yet issued an official comment. The investigation is ongoing to clarify the cause and responsibilities of all parties involved.
