On December 3, Iranian media reported that the country’s naval forces fired warning shots at two US destroyers in the Gulf of Oman, forcing the warships to leave the area.
According to a statement from the Iranian Navy Command, the two US destroyers entered waters near the Strait of Hormuz without prior authorization. Iranian forces issued multiple warnings via radio signals, but the US vessels did not respond and continued moving. Subsequently, an Iranian warship fired warning shots, prompting the two US destroyers to immediately change course and withdraw from the area.
The incident comes amid ongoing strained relations between Iran and the United States. The US regularly deploys warships to the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, stating its aim is to ensure maritime security. However, Iran views these activities as provocative and a violation of its sovereignty.
No official comment has yet been made by the United States regarding the incident.
