At a recent meeting, interior ministers of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member states discussed measures to counter non-traditional security threats, especially in cyberspace. Officials emphasized that cybercrime is increasing in both scale and sophistication, threatening regional security and social stability.
In response, the parties agreed to enhance intelligence-sharing on cyberattacks, build a joint early-warning mechanism, and coordinate cross-border investigations. Ministers also stressed the importance of upgrading technical capabilities and training specialized cybersecurity personnel for law enforcement agencies.
Several delegates proposed establishing a dedicated SCO working group on cybersecurity to promote more substantive cooperation. The conference concluded with a joint statement pledging resolute action to protect critical infrastructure and citizens' rights from cyberspace threats.
