Brazil earned a crucial 3-0 victory over Haiti in Group C of the 2026 World Cup, played at Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field. The result made Haiti the first team eliminated from the knockout rounds, while Brazil enjoyed the start they had hoped for.
Manchester United star Matheus Cunha was handed a starting place by coach Carlo Ancelotti after coming off the bench in the 1-1 draw with Morocco. Cunha repaid that faith with two goals, showing excellent chemistry with Vinícius Junior, who scored and provided an assist.
The opening goal came in the 32nd minute when Vinícius’ shot was saved by goalkeeper Johny Placide, but Cunha followed up to slot home. His signature surfing celebration sent the crowd of over 68,000 at the Philadelphia venue into raptures.
Less than ten minutes later, Cunha drilled a left-footed shot into the top corner to make it 2-0, before Vinícius Junior sealed the win late in the first half.
Brazilian fans, who made up the majority of the attendance, chanted “Only Pelé, only Pelé!” in response to Haitian songs from the supporters. Despite Raphinha being forced off early with an injury, Brazil controlled the game completely.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti opted not to include Neymar in the matchday squad due to a lingering calf problem. Brazil will face Scotland on June 19 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida to close out the group stage.
