A person has died and more than 100,000 people are still without power after Tropical Storm Lala hit the Hawaiian Islands, according to local officials on Monday.
The storm knocked down trees from downtown Honolulu to the Big Island, where heavy rain and strong winds caused severe flooding and isolated communities in remote areas.
Hours of heavy rain left many roads submerged, while floodwaters swept away soil and vegetation, hampering rescue efforts. Local authorities have mobilized emergency response teams to reach and assist residents in the hardest-hit areas.
Utility companies are working to restore the power grid but warn that repairs could take days due to the widespread damage. Residents are advised to keep monitoring official updates and prepare contingency plans as weather conditions remain unpredictable.
Hawaii officials have not released the identity of the victim and said search teams are still checking flooded areas to ensure no one remains trapped.
