Typhoon Dolphin made landfall on China's eastern coast on Sunday night, bringing strong winds, heavy rain and high waves, after authorities evacuated hundreds of thousands of people and airports in Shanghai canceled more than 1,300 flights.
The storm came ashore in the Taizhou area of Zhejiang province and northern Fujian province, with estimated winds of 151 km/h at landfall. Meteorologists warned that some areas in Zhejiang could receive between 200 and 400 mm of rainfall in the coming days, raising the risk of flooding and landslides.
Authorities evacuated about 390,000 people in Taizhou and more than 30,000 from vulnerable areas in Shanghai. Ferry and cruise services in Zhejiang were suspended, while Shanghai's Hongqiao and Pudong airports canceled about 60 percent of scheduled flights.
The outer bands of Typhoon Dolphin brought heavy rains to northern Taiwan, including Taipei, on Saturday, prompting some airlines to cancel flights to China.
In the Philippines, the storm enhanced monsoon rains, causing floods and landslides across northern Luzon. Five people were rescued, while seven remain missing after a landslide hit three houses in Baguio, according to local officials.
