Bangladesh secured a historic win over Pakistan in the first Test in Dhaka, winning by 104 runs, powered by an impressive performance from fast bowler Nahid Rana. The 23-year-old Rana took five wickets in the second innings, finishing with figures of 5-40, helping the hosts fight back after Pakistan chased a target of 268 runs.
Pakistan began the final day at 119-3 but collapsed to 163 all out in the last session. Debutant Abdullah Fazal, 23, fought hard with 66 runs, but it was not enough to save the visitors. Salman Agha made 26 runs before Rana broke the game open with a 147 km/h delivery, dismissing Mohammad Rizwan and his teammates.
This is Bangladesh’s first Test victory over Pakistan on home soil and only their third overall. The hosts lead 1-0 in the two-Test series. “Very happy – proud of everyone, the way we played,” captain Najmul Hossain Shanto said. “We have worked hard over the last few months and are gradually improving in Test cricket.”
Shanto also equaled Mushfiqur Rahim’s record of seven Test wins as captain, reaching the milestone in just 17 matches compared to Mushfiqur’s 34. In the first innings, Shanto scored 101 runs to help Bangladesh post 413, while Pakistan replied with 386, thanks to Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s 5-102.
The second Test will be held on Saturday in Sylhet.
