Arteta Reassures Arsenal Fans Over Future Ahead of Man City Clash

Mikel Arteta has reassured Arsenal supporters they have no reason to worry about his future, as the Spanish coach enters the final year of his contract with the club.

Arteta ended Arsenal's 22-year wait for a Premier League title in May and is expected to be rewarded with a new deal for that historic success. However, with Arsenal preparing to kick off the 2026-27 campaign against Manchester City in the Community Shield on Sunday, there has been little sign of him putting pen to paper.

Arteta, who joined Arsenal in 2019, last agreed a contract extension with the north London club in 2024. He insists there is no doubt a fresh agreement will eventually be signed.

"They don't need to worry about anything regarding that, because I want to stay here," the Spaniard said. "I am extremely happy. I feel very grateful to be working with the people I am working with, and when the opportunity comes we will sort it out. That's it."

Hinting that Arsenal's busy summer transfer activity has taken priority over his own contract, Arteta urged fans not to be concerned. "There is always a different priority, I think! That is the way we are handling it, because everyone is comfortable that timing is not going to be an issue," he said. "I think because my desire is certainly to stay here and I am very happy where I am. The feeling from the club is the same. That is why everything is happening very naturally."

Arsenal have bolstered their title-winning squad with the additions of midfielder Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle and striker Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge. They also made Piero Hincapie's loan from Bayer Leverkusen permanent and brought in Illan Meslier on a free transfer.

Arteta's pursuits of Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers and Real Madrid's Vinicius Junior were unsuccessful in a transfer window where Manchester City, Tottenham, and Chelsea all spent over £100 million ($135 million) on a single player. However, Arteta is not worried about Arsenal's title reign being disrupted by one of their big-spending rivals.

"I am really pleased with the squad, with the players I have, and I am very happy with the ambition of the club," said Arteta, who is reportedly interested in Villa's Ezri Konsa and Leverkusen's Jarell Quansah to strengthen his defense. "There is no doubt about that and we have shown that through actions, but I think we need to do it in our own way.

"We have strengths that are superior, and we also have areas we need to be very careful about because we don't have the resources or structure that other clubs have. We need to do it our way. We always have, and we will do what we believe is right. To have the best chance of competing on all fronts, that is for sure."
