Arteta believes his players still have a "hunger" for trophies following last May's painful Champions League final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.
For Man City, new boss Enzo Maresca endured a forgettable debut as his side looked disjointed and lacking ideas. Maresca was chosen to succeed Pep Guardiola after leaving Chelsea in January, and this defeat highlighted the gap that remains between City and Arsenal.
Arsenal also showcased their big-money signings: Bruno Guimaraes (£75m from Newcastle) settled well in midfield, while Christos Tzolis (£34m from Club Brugge) impressed with two assists.
