According to a statement from Iran's Foreign Ministry, the exchange took place amid a complex and shifting situation in the Middle East. The two diplomats reviewed key security developments in the region, particularly recent events in the Middle East and neighboring areas.
Both sides emphasized the importance of maintaining regular dialogue and consultations between Tehran and Athens in order to promote mutual understanding, as well as coordinating positions at international forums. Foreign Minister Araghchi and his Greek counterpart also exchanged views on measures to enhance bilateral cooperation across various fields.
This move comes as Iran is actively expanding diplomatic relations with European countries, despite ongoing challenges in Tehran's ties with the West over its nuclear program and regional issues. Greece, as a member of the European Union (EU), could serve as a bridge in some diplomatic matters between Iran and the bloc.
