A Saudi government source has rejected U.S. media reports that President Donald Trump paused a military escort operation in the Strait of Hormuz after Saudi Arabia refused to allow the use of its airspace and bases. The source told AFP the reports were false, adding that U.S. forces still have normal access to Saudi facilities.
A Saudi government source has dismissed U.S. media reports that President Donald Trump suspended a military operation to guide ships through the Strait of Hormuz after intervention by Riyadh.
According to NBC News, Trump changed course following a direct conversation between Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and the U.S. president, during which Saudi Arabia denied permission for American forces to use its airspace and bases for the Hormuz mission.
“This is not true,” a source close to the Saudi government told AFP. The source added that the United States continues to have regular access to Saudi bases and airspace.
