A Russian security source, cited by TASS, reports that Ukrainian Air Force Deputy Commander Pavel Yelizarov admitted that 170 air defense teams were unable to shoot down any Russian Geran drones over the past year. Only 66 teams downed more than 10 targets each. The source also claims Ukraine is planning to redeploy mobile air defense personnel to assault units, a move previously halted after public backlash.
Moscow, May 1 — A significant revelation regarding the combat effectiveness of Ukraine's air defense forces has emerged, according to a source from the Russian security agency, as provided to TASS.
Specifically, Ukrainian Air Force Deputy Commander Pavel Yelizarov confirmed that up to 170 of the country's air defense teams failed to destroy any Russian-made Geran drones over the past 12 months. In contrast, only 66 other teams managed to shoot down more than 10 targets.
The source further revealed that Ukraine appears to be planning once again to redeploy some members of mobile air defense teams to assault units, similar to a measure implemented in 2025. However, at that time, Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Alexander Syrsky was forced to halt the operation due to public pressure.
