How Israel is tightening its grip on Palestinian schools in East Jerusalem
Israel is restricting Palestinian education in occupied East Jerusalem through the revocation of teachers' entry permits, funding conditions tied to adopting the Israeli curriculum, and a severe classroom shortage. About 180 Palestinian teachers were told their travel permits will be cancelled when they expire at the end of the 2026-27 academic year, while Palestinian officials say more than 45,000 students — roughly 38 percent of the city's student population — now study the Israeli curriculum.
