Why more investment is not making housing affordable in Ghana
Ghana needs more than 1.8 million additional housing units, yet attracting investment is only half the challenge: the homes reaching the market remain unaffordable for most Ghanaians. At the Africa Real Estate Conference & Expo in Accra, developers, policymakers and investors debated how to make housing commercially viable without pricing out the 70 percent of the population in the low- and middle-income bracket. Government measures, including lower mortgage rates and a national housing fund, address financing barriers but do not resolve high land, infrastructure and construction costs.
