‘Healthcare not bombs’: How Gaza shaped Adam Hamawy’s path to US Congress
Adam Hamawy, a former US Army combat surgeon and volunteer doctor who treated patients in Gaza, has been elected to the US Congress from New Jersey's 12th District, becoming the state's first Muslim American congressman. He campaigned on a 'healthcare not bombs' platform, vowing to end US military aid to Israel and push for universal healthcare. His victory was one of eight wins by Muslim American candidates as Democrats took control of both chambers of Congress.
