Australian government defends social media ban for under 16s in court

Australia's government defended its under-16 social media ban in the High Court, arguing the risks to children—depression, anxiety and suicidal ideation—justify the measure. Reddit and the Digital Freedom Project are challenging the law as disproportionate and a breach of implied political communication freedoms. The court is expected to rule in the coming months in a case with global implications, as France and the UK weigh similar restrictions.
