Generation Z and diversity redefine US politics in groundbreaking election
The 2026 US midterm elections produced historic firsts in political representation, with 29-year-old Ethiopian-born democratic socialist Melat Kiros becoming the first Generation Z woman elected to Congress. The results also brought the first Muslim American senator (Abdul El-Sayed), the first Native American woman senator (Peggy Flanagan), and the first Black woman elected governor (Keisha Lance Bottoms), alongside record numbers of women and minority officeholders.
