US Midterm Elections 2026
US stock markets opened higher on Wednesday after Democrats swept the 2026 midterm elections, winning control of both the House and Senate, with President Donald Trump indicating on social media that he would accept the results. The Nasdaq rose 1 percent, the Dow 1.8 percent and the S&P 500 1.1 percent at the open, while import-reliant retailers gained on possible tariff-policy changes and AI-linked stocks such as Oracle and Nvidia slipped amid Democratic scrutiny of the sector. Oil prices fell more than 3 percent as investors weighed the political shift and reports of possible talks to end the Iran war and the Russia-Ukraine war.
