South Africa’s ANC on track for new lows in local polls
South Africa's ruling ANC is heading for a sharply reduced share of the vote in this week's municipal elections, polling around 32 percent with more than 60 percent of ballots counted, according to the electoral commission. The Democratic Alliance sits second at 25 percent, while Jacob Zuma's MK party is third at 8.5 percent, below pre-election expectations, with turnout estimated at 54.5 percent. The results, due to be finalized Sunday, threaten the ANC's hold on key cities such as Johannesburg and could trigger complex coalition talks.
