Iran says tankers struck in Hormuz amid fears of new US attack
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and army say at least five oil tankers and a tugboat caught fire after striking naval mines or being otherwise hit in and around the Strait of Hormuz, where Tehran has sharply restricted shipping since the war began in late February. The British military's UKMTO separately reported a tanker struck by two projectiles about 50 nautical miles north of Qatar, with no claim of responsibility. The incidents come as Qatar pushes mediation and US officials tell The New York Times that forces are poised to resume major combat operations against Iran on President Donald Trump's orders.
