Taiwan to close representative office in Papua New Guinea, blames China
Taiwan has announced it will close its representative office in Papua New Guinea and halt new spot purchases of LNG from Port Moresby, accusing China of political and economic pressure on the South Pacific nation. Taiwan's Foreign Ministry said Papua New Guinea repeated demands for staff to leave the office within a deadline, after previously deciding in July to shut it. Taipei will also end technical cooperation and assistance programmes as it faces shrinking diplomatic space.
