Pope Leo arrives in Uruguay starting 12-day Latin America tour
Pope Leo XIV arrived in Montevideo on Friday, launching a 12-day tour of Uruguay, Argentina and Peru just three weeks after surgery to remove a lung tumour had cast doubt on the trip. The 71-year-old pontiff said he feels "fairly good" and never doubted the visit would go ahead, telling reporters the journey would "strengthen faith, renew hope, and rekindle the fire of charity" across a region facing inequality, violence and declining Catholic observance.
