Human Rights Group Sues South African Government Over Arms Export Licenses to US
The Southern Africa Litigation Centre (SALC) has filed a lawsuit against the South African government, seeking to suspend arms export licenses to the US over concerns they may violate domestic law and threaten international peace and security. The case argues that the National Conventional Arms Control Committee may not have properly applied legal standards requiring denial of licenses if exports risk human rights violations or undermine peace. The lawsuit comes amid already strained diplomatic relations between South Africa and the United States.
