Record heatwave in Europe: France reports over 1,000 excess deaths
French health authorities reported on June 30 that the severe heatwave sweeping Europe has caused over 1,000 excess deaths, mainly among the elderly, while at least 191 million people across the continent endured temperatures above 35°C. The heat was especially intense in Germany, the Czech Republic, Hungary, and several other countries, with multiple fatalities from drowning as people sought relief in water.
