Senior Sri Lankan Buddhist Monk Arrested for Alleged Child Sexual Abuse
Pallegama Hemarathana, a 71-year-old high-ranking Buddhist monk in Colombo, was arrested on Saturday for allegedly sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl at a temple in Anuradhapura. This is the most prominent case of its kind involving a senior monk in Sri Lanka. The victim's mother was also arrested on suspicion of aiding the monk.
