Skull Fractures in Egyptian Tombs Strengthen Case for Royal Retainer Sacrifice
Research on remains from the Umm el-Qa'ab royal cemetery near Abydos has found fatal trauma on many skulls, bolstering the long-debated theory that servants of Egypt's First Dynasty kings were sacrificed when their ruler died. The study, the first to examine human remains directly from the tombs, found fractures in 18 of 46 skulls.
