China, North Korea Open New Border Bridge, Tightening Bilateral Ties
A new bridge over the Yalu River linking China's Dandong with North Korea's Sinuiju has officially opened, with both sides hailing it as a symbol of friendship. The 3-kilometer, four-lane bridge is expected to relieve pressure on the aging China-North Korea Friendship Bridge, which handles more than 70% of official bilateral trade. The inauguration comes as Pyongyang seeks to deepen ties with both Beijing and Moscow to ease its economic isolation.
