‘Helpless’: The families facing winter in tents on the beach in Gaza
Families displaced to Gaza's coastline near al-Qarara port in Khan Younis are bracing for a second winter in fragile tents exposed to wind, rain and rising seawater, with nowhere safer or more affordable to go. An aid initiative is turning damaged cooking pots into stacked soil-filled barriers to hold back waves, but organisers and Gaza's Winter Emergency Committee warn the measure is only temporary amid severe shortages of tents, caravans, fuel and building materials.
