The 2026 Nobel Prize in Chemistry has been awarded to Henri Kagan of France and Kenso Soai of Japan for discoveries on nonlinear effects and autocatalysis in asymmetric organic synthesis. Their work explains how mirror-image, or chiral, molecules can form naturally and provides tools for selectively producing a single form — a crucial capability in drug manufacturing.
The 2026 Nobel Prize in Chemistry has been awarded to Japanese scientist Kenso Soai for his work on asymmetric autocatalysis, a mechanism that enables molecules to catalyze their own formation of specific mirror structures. The research has major implications for chemical synthesis, particularly in producing pure pharmaceutical molecules where spatial structure determines efficacy and safety.
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has awarded this year's Nobel Prize in Chemistry to Japanese organic chemist Kenso Soai and French researcher Henri Kagan. The two were honored for their discovery of "nonlinear effects and autocatalysis in asymmetric organic synthesis." The prize recognizes their contributions to organic chemistry, particularly research on nonlinear effects and autocatalytic processes in asymmetric synthesis.
