Japan posts first trade deficit in 5 months at ¥378.6bn in May
Japan recorded a trade deficit of ¥378.6 billion (US$2.4 billion) in May, snapping a four-month surplus streak as crude oil imports plunged more than 57% in volume amid heightened Middle East tensions. Total imports rose 8.7% year-on-year while exports grew only 2.6%, led by automobiles and machinery to the U.S. and Asia.
