US selects 5 potential partners to use Cold War-era plutonium as fuel
The US Department of Energy has selected five companies, including Oklo, for advanced negotiations on using roughly 20 tons of plutonium from dismantled nuclear warheads as reactor fuel. The move, part of a Trump-era initiative to repurpose surplus plutonium for advanced nuclear technology, has drawn opposition from some Democrats citing proliferation risks.
